Just a few miles south of Tucson Arizona, a historic Catholic mission sits on a fertile plain with desert mountains in the distance.  It was initially established in the late 1600’s and has had a storied history as the Spanish, Mexican and American governments have held jurisdiction over this sacred ground.  You can read more about the history of the mission by clicking on the links below.

The mission includes a school, the church, a museum and gift shop.  The church includes many murals and statues that are in very good condition.  The Spanish architecture is also in great shape considering the structure has undergone renovations many times over the past 300 years.

There is a small hill where a shrine has been established.  Visitors leave mementos on the fence in memory of loved ones.  The hill affords visitors a beautiful view of the mission and its surroundings.  See the video below.

The mission is open to the public and typically welcomes over 200,000 visitors every year.  If you appreciate religious and/or southwestern history, this is a must stop on your travels through southern Arizona.
